We love the simplicity of our Summer Bloom flower blackwork cross stitch pattern.
In reality, the Summer Bloom flower blackwork is not actually cross stitch but is very easy small straight and diagonal stitches which make a colorful picture.
It’s not actually black either! We’ve chosen modern shades of purple, pink, blue, green and yellow because this not only makes the flower blackwork look stunning, it is also easier to follow the pattern if you have limited experience of the blackwork technique.
If you’re someone who stitches regularly then you should be able to complete this design in about four hours if you can get some quiet time away from interruptions.
It might take you a little longer if you are a beginner but we’ve chosen 16 count Aida which makes it easy to see where to place the needle. We’d suggest you find the middle of the material by loosely folding it in half and then half again, but don’t press it down as you don’t want to create a crease in it!
Once you’ve done that, you can see where the blue symbols begin, just above the middle butterfly and once you’ve worked up to the top it’s easy to count the number of blue and pink motifs to make the square.
Then you can use the butterflies as your guide to create the flowers. It isn’t at all complicated because although from a distance the flower blackwork looks as though it has curves, they are really just small straight lines!
We send you the flower blackwork as a pdf to download straight away
When you order the flower blackwork from us we send you a pdf so that you can download the color pattern and get started straight away. Once you’ve made it in the colors we suggest, you could use others to personalise your design. Red and green would look great for Christmas for instance.
