If you’re new to stitching then the I Love to Stitch starter cross stitch pattern is a great way to get started.
I Love to Stitch is a starter cross stitch pattern on 16 count Aida and we’ve chosen to make it on white Aida in colors of pink and blue. When you download this design you get the symbols not only in black and white but also as a color chart so that it’s easy to follow.
We suggest that you use DMC thread because it’s good quality and available in Europe and the US, but you could use any colors you like, maybe a variety of nice greens for a Spring card or red and green for a Christmas gift.
This would be a good design for a young person who wants to try a new hobby of cross stitch but doesn’t want the outlay of buying lots of different colors until they’ve decided if they want to continue with it. Being able to see the results of their stitching so quickly is a real incentive.
When we cross stitch we like to use a wooden hoop, which you can buy from a craft or needlework shop for just a few pounds/dollars. This keeps the Aida taut so that it’s easier to stitch and also easier to prepare for framing if that’s what you decide to do with it afterwards.
On the other hand, the starter cross stitch I Love to Stitch would make a nice gift for a friend or relative, especially if you put it inside an aperture card.
Once you’ve got the I Love to Stitch design it’s something you can use over and over again because it’s quick and easy to stitch so ideal for those times when you want to give a personalised gift.
If you want to use slightly larger Aida, you can use 14 count, which can be easier to stitch if you’re a novice.
