Here’s a lovely new design called Hearts Bloom Blackwork cross stitch pattern which is part of our popular blackwork range.
In reality, blackwork isn’t anything like cross stitch except for the fact that it uses a single thread because it doesn’t form a cross but makes a picture from little straight lines.
To create our Hearts Bloom Blackwork cross stitch design we’ve used just three colors, pink, purple and green and we’ve made it really easy so if you’re a beginner at Blackwork you can have a go and make a finished work of art which looks really difficult but which is actually very easy to do.
The edge of the Hearts Bloom Blackwork cross stitch design is in a sort of Greek key pattern interspersed with green oblongs. Looked at the right way up they resemble hearts as do the motifs in the centre of the pattern which look as though they are suspended inside leaves.
We’ve used DMC thread for this design because we think it’s good quality and you can buy it pretty much anywhere in the world, but if you are a slightly more experienced stitcher you could make the Hearts Bloom Blackwork cross stitch in a glitter or holographic thread.

This is a little more tricky than using plain thread but if you use the thread in shorter lengths and use it doubled, then you will get a stunning effect. We recommend Gutermann holographic thread and also Superior Threads for the Hearts Bloom Blackwork cross stitch, which is very easy to work, particularly if you use a product like Thread Heaven, which comes in a small blue box. You run the thread through that and it creates static which stops the threads from tangling. If you haven’t tried it before give it a go because it does make a difference.
This would make a lovely birthday card for someone or you could make four of them in different colors and put them into a group together on your wall for an impressive look.
